The
Rolling Stones "Shine A Light" Soundtrack Album Released
By
Phyllis Pollack
The
Rolling Stones Shine A Light, the
riveting soundtrack album for the film of the same title, comes in two editions.
One version is offered as a single disc, and the other is a deluxe double disc
edition containing more live tracks. The tracks on these discs are from the live
recordings made at the band’s New York City’s Beacon Theater shows, held
during the Bigger Bang tour, on
October 29 and November 1, 2006. The CD packages include liner notes written by
the film’s director, Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese.
The
deluxe edition is only the third live double album released by the Stones, with
the previous dual disc releases being 1977’s Love
You Live and 2004’s Live Licks.
The two-disc set contains twenty-four songs, while the single edition contains
seventeen songs. Read more here--->>>

The
Rolling Stones NY Premiere For Shine A Light
“Lead
Guitars And Movie Stars Get Their Tongues Beneath Your Hood”
By
Phyllis Pollack
The
New York premiere for the Paramount Classics film, Shine
A Light, the Martin Scorsese concert documentary about the Rolling Stones,
was held on Sunday, March 30, at Clearview’s Ziegfeld Theater on West 54th.
The
area was heavily secured, as fans stood across the street, trying to glimpse a
view of the band from afar. A tented entrance was constructed the day before the
premiere, to seclude the proceedings on the red carpet from those who were
outside, across the street, trying to watch the band enter the theater. Read

Martin
Scorsese And The Rolling Stones
Their
New York Shine A Light Press
Conference -
By Phyllis Pollack
The press conference
with the Rolling Stones and Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, held
to promote the upcoming theatrical release of the documentary feature film, Shine
ALight, took place on March 30 in New York City, on the fourth floor
of the Palace Hotel. The room was filled to capacity, accommodating
approximately two hundred members of the press that included myself.
The event followed a
press lunch that was also held at the hotel. Members of the media were anxiously
queued up, awaiting to hear what the Scorsese, who had directed films including Italianamerican,Taxi Driver, The Last Waltz,
Raging Bull, The Color Of Money, The LastTemptation Of Christ, Goodfellas,
Cape Fear, Casino, Kundun,
Age OfInnocence and The
Departed, and who had worked as an assistant director in the seminal film Woodstock,
would have to say about working with the Stones. Needless to say, the members of
the media, who were present, were looking forward to hearing the imminent
statements that would soon be made by both the band and by the revered filmmaker.
The five icons,
filmmaker Scorsese, Rolling Stones vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarists Keith
Richards and Ronnie Wood, and drummer Charlie Watts entered the room. The
conference began with the introduction, “Ladies and gentlemen, Martin Scorsese
and the Rolling Stones,” to which they were greeted with extended,
enthusiastic applause.
The highly anticipated
media event lasted approximately twenty-four minutes, as the press conference
was cut shorter than expected. Therefore, a limited amount of questions were
allowed, due to the time constraint.
What transpired at the
press conference moved quickly, as the red carpet premiere would be held soon
after, just a few blocks away, at Clearview’s Ziegfeld Theater on West 54th
St.

Stones Planet
Fanzine held party for pre-screening in Pittsburgh last night
Blue Lena hosted 12 fans from the Pittsburgh Area
last night for the special fan club pre-screening of Shine A Light. Each
contest winner won 2 passes for 2 to this special screening. All attendees
were given a blinky tongue necklace from Blue Lena & Stones Planet.
The group had a pre-party with dinner and drinks at Houlihan's restaurant
from 5pm-7:45pm and then shared a row of seats in the theater to cheer on the
band. The theater held 350, but it was only about half full. The sound
was loud and the music was amazing...the old interview clips were a nice
addition and caused quite a lot of laughter. The movie did a
brilliant job of capturing the drive, professionalism, passion, humor, emotion
and musicianship that makes this band tick. It gives a nice intimate
portrait of what it's like to be up close and personal at a Stones club show.
Everyone enjoyed the evening and several folks will be back Friday for the
actual premiere on April 4. I advise sitting at least half way up in the
center of the theater so your neck doesn't hurt...that IMAX is huge!
The Rolling Stones Shine A Light
exclusive:
First
The Sun And Then The Moon
By
Phyllis Pollack
The
Rolling Stones and director Martin Scorsese deliver an impressive visual and
auditory masterpiece with the upcoming documentary film, Shine
A Light. Stocked with an arsenal of 2006 performance footage from New York
City’s Beacon Theater, the two hour film, distributed by Paramount Classics,
is produced by Steve Bing, Michael Cohl, Zane Weiner and Victoria Pearman,
executive produced by band members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts
and Ronnie Wood. Jane Rose serves as co-executive producer. The film, slated for
theatrical release on April 4, is is dedicated to the memory of Ahmet Ertegun.
Having
been in St. Louis in 1987 to write a review for Billboard
Magazine on the two concerts that were held to generate footage for Taylor
Hackford’s feature film, Hail, Hail,
Rock And Roll, A Tribute To Chuck Berry, for which Stones guitarist Keith
Richards served as musical director, and my later having reviewed several other
Rolling Stones films, among them, the reissue of that film on DVD, as well as TheBiggest Bang, Rock
And Roll Circus, FourFlicks,
my cherished limited edition release of Keith
Richards and the X-Pensive Winos: Live At The Hollywood Palladium, and my
owning numerous other Stones films, a few of which include Let’sSpend The Night
Together, Bridges To Babylon, Live
At The Max, Gimme Shelter, Sympathy For
The Devil, plus the rest of the footage that is stashed in my shelves, I
knew I would be more than qualified to make a comparison, when seeing what
Martin Scorsese would bring to the mix. Many years ago, ever since a friend of
mine had given me a bootleg copy of Cocksucker
Blues, which featured the legendary vision of Keith Richards and Bobby Keyes
throwing a TV set out of a hotel window, I was hooked. Since then, I have
somehow also acquired numerous other bootleg Rolling Stones videos recorded
around the world. By now, I was more than ready to finally witness what the
director of brilliant works like Taxi
Driver, The Last Waltz, Good
Fellas, and No Direction Home would create when intersecting with the Glimmer
Twins. The result is priceless. Read more here--->>>
Ronnies
private gallery show
by Blue Lena
Ronnie held a private gallery show at Pop International Gallery on Saturday
night, which we were able to attend thanks to my friend LH who got us on
the guest list. I gave Ronnie my last copy of Stones Planet Fanzine, our summer
London issue which featured him on the cover, he gave me a kiss in return.
Here's a pic of Ronnie I took at the gallery. I have a few more pix of
him too. We saw Keith and Ronnie leave the hotel to go to the Ziegfeld.
We saw all the Stones arrive on the red carpet for the premiere, as well as
L'Wren and Martin Scrocese and Albert Maysles, Blondie and Bernard. We
also went to the after party at the hotel on Sunday evening, talked to
Shelley, Bernard, Blondie, Tim and Ronnie. All in all, we had a blast.
