Review Rolling In
Rotterdam :
by Blue Lena
A lot of people chose to skip the Rotterdam De Kuip shows
because they were large stadium shows, and I must admit that I was expecting
just another stadium show myself, but I was wrong. I had only arrived in Holland
that morning and the day was spent running around collecting tickets, checking
into the hotel and then taking the train from Amsterdam to Rotterdam. We barely
made it before 8pm to the show, but Rotterdam on night number two ended up being
the best damn stadium show I have seen next to the Wembley Stadium shows
of’99. Rotterdam rocked! Not only was the band on fire, but the crowd
was totally insane. It was just a joy to watch 50,000 people literally ALL with
their arms in the air, waving, clapping, singing, dancing…not just the front
of the stadium, but the very, very back as well. You’ll never see a stadium
show like this in the States. The crowd got into it right away and they sang
LOUD and had plenty of opportunity, from “yeah, yeah, yeah woooooo” on Brown
Sugar, to “hey, hey” on You Got Me Rocking, to the chorus of You Can’t
Always Get What You Want….wow, I can’t say it enough how the Rotterdam fans
impressed me. The boys tried out Angie tonight as the ballad and did a stellar
version of Midnight Rambler…always amazing to see it carried off so
brilliantly in a stadium as well as they do in a club. And Keith, what can I say?
Nearness of You is just fucking fantastic to those of us who appreciate that
song, and I thank Keith for choosing to bring it into the set this tour because
it surely is a special treat. Neighbors was fun to hear again on the B stage,
and then we got Mannish Boy…but Street Fighting Man on the B stage was a
killer tonight. I left that stadium happier than when I had arrived that’s for
sure! Looking ahead to the next 4 shows in Holland.
