The
Rolling Stones Paint It Black On Upcoming Shine A Light DVD/Blu-ray
By PHYLLIS POLLACK
Hollywood, California
Even if you have already seen Shine A Light in a theater, there is an
upcoming DVD/Blu-ray package slated for release that is still worthy of buying.
So you think you’ve seen the Light? Think again.
When Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese’s Rolling Stones concert
documentary Shine A Light was released on April 4, its theatrical run in
both Imax and conventional theaters was limited to a select number of theaters
due to its documentary format. Therefore, countless fans still have not yet seen
this critically acclaimed film, documenting performances from the largest
grossing concert tour of all time. However, they will finally be able to do so
when Shine A Light is released on DVD/Blu-ray on July 29.
Because I had seen Shine A Light prior to its theatrical release, and had
written reviews on it, in addition to the fact I had both attended and written
extensively about the Rolling Stones press conference that was held in New York
for the film, and I had interviewed the Rolling Stones on the red carpet (which
was actually black) at the NY premiere, I wanted to go full circle, and review
what is in the DVD package, aside from what is included in it that was seen in
its theatrical release. Therefore, the focus here will be on the package’s added
features, because I have already reviewed the theatrical release it contains. Read

Thank
you Father Chuck Berry
Text by André Ribeiro - Photo by Karen

Chuck Berry is not only the father of rock and roll. For Rolling
Stones fans, he is Keith Richards's main influence, the man who gave
the old pirate the foundations so that he could create his own style
when playing the guitar.
Stones Planet Fanzine witnessed Chuck Berry's show at Pepsi OnStage, in Porto Alegre (Brazil), on June 21. It was a rock and rollcelebration that brought together many fans of the great rock and rollartists. The Rolling Stones fans were also there.
During the concert, which lasted for about one hour, Chuck playedseveral of his hits, including some of the songs the Rolling Stonesalso recorded, such as Carol, Little Queenie, Roll Over Beethoven,Around and Around and Honest I Do.
Chuck Berry Jr., who accompanies his father by playing the guitar, made a comment about the show that thrilled all the fans from PortoAlegre: "This was the best show in the Brazilian tour," which includedconcerts in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba. "This probably wasthe best show we did during the 35 years I've been playing with ChuckBerry," agreed the bass player Jim Marsala.
Thank you Chuck Berry!
Tim
Ries and Bernard Fowler enchant Brazilians
By André Ribeiro
On Saturday, June 21, Tim Ries and Bernard Fowler did an unforgettable
show at Chateau Montevidéu, in Campos do Jordão, near São Paulo, in
the Southeast region of Brazil. It was a single gig for 250 guests
with the sponsorship of Tim and LG. Brazilians had the chance to see
the Rolling Stones Project for the first time. Tim Ries has performed
in several countries between 2005 and 2007 with this project.
The climax of the show was Bernard?s performance of Wild Horses.
People gave him a big hand. Tim and Bernard played with the Brazilian
musicians from the Michel Freidenson Trio. At the end of the show, the
local musicians played samba, and Tim accompanied them by playing
clarinet.
"Thank you very much for the chance to play in Brazil, for the
opportunity to play with great musicians and for being able to mix
wonderful rhythms," said Tim thankfully before leaving the stage.
After the gig, Tim and Bernard talked to the fans, took many pictures
with the them and signed hundreds of autographs.
The show was so successful that the promoters of the event are
considering the possibility of inviting Tim Ries to promote his new
album, Stones World, during several new concerts in Brazil. The CD,
Stones World, must be released between the end of September and the
beginning of October.
Set list of the show: Honky Tonk Women, Baby Break Down, Wild Horses,
Street Fighting Man, Satisfaction, Ruby Tuesday and Jam Session (samba).

Chuck
Leavell Releases New Double Live CD May 13, 2008
Today Chuck Leavell releases his LiveIn Germany: The Green Leaves and Blue Notes Tour on Evergreen Arts,
distributed by RED/Sony.Chuck
started his “Green Leaves & Blue Notes Tour” in Europe after the Rolling Stones’ “A Bigger Bang” tour
finished in late August 2007, and he recruited some German musicians to play
with him. The band featured Paul Hochstader on drums, Christian Diener on bass,
Lutz Hafner on sax and Frank Kuruc on guitar. The drummer was recommended by
fellow Stones sideman Tim Ries. This concert was recorded on September 14, 2007 at Hessischer Rundfunk Studio 2 for the German radio station
HR1 for their “HR1 Live Lounge” program and the audience was made up of
contest winners.
Chuck
dabbles with a variety of original pieces such as “Tomato Jam” and
“Savannah” from his 2005 release “Southscape” and “Blue Rose” from
2001’s “Forever Blue”, classic covers like “Down The Road A Piece” and
Stones & Allman’s tunes such as “Honky Tonk Women”, “Rip This
Joint”, “Jessica” and “Statesboro Blues”. Chuck’s bluesy roots shine
through mixed with a touch of rock and roll and even southern jazz. Since Chuck
is often “behind the scenes” with the Stones, these cds highlight his honky
tonk piano brilliance and his strong lead vocals as well. Chuck billed this show
as one in which “the stars lined up for us” and stated that he had “one of
the best experiences” he has ever had at a live show.
Chuck admits to three passions, his
family, his trees and his music, and this tour was slated to raise awareness in Europe about the environmental challenges we all face.
In keeping with the green theme Chuck
reminds us that this cd is packaged using the natural, organic and renewable
source of wood. “Wood is Good”. The plastic trays are made from recycled
material.
If you’re a fan of Chuck and his
piano, you’ll love this set. Available from www.chuckleavell.com

The
Rolling Stones NY Premiere For Shine A Light
“Lead
Guitars And Movie Stars Get Their Tongues Beneath Your Hood”
By
Phyllis Pollack
The
New York premiere for the Paramount Classics film, Shine
A Light, the Martin Scorsese concert documentary about the Rolling Stones,
was held on Sunday, March 30, at Clearview’s Ziegfeld Theater on West 54th.
The
area was heavily secured, as fans stood across the street, trying to glimpse a
view of the band from afar. A tented entrance was constructed the day before the
premiere, to seclude the proceedings on the red carpet from those who were
outside, across the street, trying to watch the band enter the theater. Read
