From Kathy Krumm Charlie Watts fan club: Charlie Watts has
teamed with fellow skin-pounder and veteran session man Jim Keltner to
form the Charlie Watts/Jim Keltner Project. The duo's self-titled debut
is slated to be released April 25 by the Cyber Octave/Higher Octave
Music label. Keltner has played with a who's who list of artists during
the past four decades, he's currently touring with Crosby, Still, Nash
& Young. Though the duo's music is currently under wraps, the label
describes it as "not a big-band recording or a 4/4 session. It is
going to surprise you." The song titles, however, reveal the
influence of many jazz greats on the pair: "Shelly Manne",
"Art Blakey", "Kenny Clarke", "Tony
Williams", "Roy Haynes", "Max Roach", "Airto",
"Billy Higgins" and "The Elvine Suite", the latter
refering to Elvin Jones. |

At the Brit Awards went into riots. Ron casually strolls
down the stage steps, drink in hand with Thora Birch. Some typical award
show banter between the two presenters follows and then Birch begins her
"the winner is" spiel. We don't see Brandon lock walk to the
podium as the nominees' video clips are running at the time. So Birch is
just about to announce the winner and Ronnie sort of gestures to this
guy in a suit standing now next to him: it just looks like your typical
award show cock-up where the nominee arrives early. Smiles and
embarrassed funny faces are pulled. Woods saying something like: "um,
we've got a problem here, and points at Block. Birch: "OK,
confusion. OK, the winner is...Notting Hill". So people think this
guy is the winner for Notting Hill. Then it turns out that he isn't and
security come to lead him away, he starts to go with them and everything
is calm.
Then the MC (Davina McCall ?) stupidly leans across with a microphone
and says "what's your name, mate?". Block leans back to he
podium, shouts his name, looks very pleased, and gets a round of
applause. He looks quite comfortable like he now wants to stick around,
but is once again vaguely guided away.
Ronnie says something like "who was that sad c/f--?" (TV
bleeps out so I'm assuming it began with a C or F). Block then springs
back to the podium and shouts "what did you call me, you sad old
C---?"
Block is carrying chopsticks (the Brits is a semi-dinner thing), so as
then lunges towards Ronnie and Birch, armed with cleanish chopsticks,
and calling him a "sad old C---", Ronnie throws his (clear)
drink over Block's face and backs back to Birch's side. Block grabs the
remainder of the drink and throws it over "Ronnie's hair. At this
point, security actually get hold of him and pull him away, then the
show went on and an announcement from Vinnie Jones and says something
like "I'd just like to make an announcement..that bastard that
throw that drink over my mate Ronnie has now been thoroughly sorted".
Big round of applause. With thanks to Cathy from UK. |

On April 13 there is a Stones meeting on The University of Lund in
Akademiska Föreningen where the author of Rolling Stones I Sverige will
attend, as well as the famous Swedish actor Johannes Brost and of course
the fan club secretary Charlotte. It's expected around 300 people will
attend to this Stones meeting.
|
| APR.16 |
The Rolling Stones meeting in Lund at the Akademiska Föreningen
were a great success! Johannes Brost, famous Swedish actor/entertainer
and the writer Per-Ove Tingvall (Swedish Keith Richardsson) told about
the early years in 1965-1967 in Sweden/Denmark each time Stones visited
our area. Around 100 guests came and the first 70 got the free Bonus CD
from No Security. Especially Johannes Brost told about the Swedish
pirate Queen (Britt Wadner) from former Radio Syd, the radio station was
visited and a 1 hour show was done! Also Britt Wadner was a kind of
mother for some of the band members, especially Keith - who just loved
her meatballs, steaks and mashed potatoes. Johannes Brost is still
through all these years a good friend of Mick Jagger, and often recieve
phonecalls from him, asking him to join a party or so!
Per-Ove Tingvall talked about his meeting in 1995 with Keith on Grand
Hotel in Stockholm.
More will come in the fanzine in June. |

From Philadelphia Inquirer: Mick Jagger and Martin
Scorsese are working on a film together about a pop star.
"It's an indersider's look at the music business and the
Machiavellian world of hit-making", a spokeswoman for the
Rolling Stones' company Jagged Films, said yesterday. "I imagine
(Jagger) will bring his own experience to bear, but it will be a work of
fiction."
No cast yet for the movie tentatively titled "The Long Play",
derscribed as a no-punches-pulled expose of the pop world. The first
feature to be completed by Jagged Film is "Enigma", starring
Kate Winslet, about the battle to break Nazi secret codes during World
War II. Oscar wiunning Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love) is
collaborating on the script directed by Michael Apted (The World Is Not
Enough). |

Keith, Ronnie and Charlie say "Good Bye Joe"
Keith and Ronnie played a Hendrix tune bidding farewell to Stones
Security Guard Joe Seabrook at a Memorial Service Wednesday while
Charlie watched from the sidelines.
About 90 people paid homage to the ex-boxer at the Half Moon in London
and heard Keith and Ronnie play guitars "Hey Joe" with Big
Country and joining them on several songs. Before their
performance, Keith and Ronnie danced together to Big Country's cover of
"Love Train".....(love to see a video of all that...).
The Stranglers also performed.
Joe Seabrook, 59, died suddenly of a brain aneurysm on March 30.
He's been with band since late seventies/early eighties. Mick and
Bill Wyman sent flowers and their condolences |

Rolling Stones may roll in 2001 says promoter according to
Ronald Stalter. The lastest rumor comes from Robert Sillerman, chairman
of the multimedia firm SFX Entertainment, which has become the ranking
powerhouse in the concert promotion industry. While announcing SFX's
first quarterley earnings report for the year, Sillerman told
stockholders that he anticipates a Stones tour for 2001. But even some
within his own camp are not so sure it will transpire. Arthur Fogel,
president of the Toronto based The Next Adventure/SFX - who's
spearheading the summer's troubled Diana Ross tour - told the Toronto
Star that while "there's always a possibility" of a Stones
tour, "certainly nothing has been discussed in any concrete manner
about a tour for next year...Maybe Sillerman's hopeful". |
| MAY 7 |
As you may know by now, Charlie Watts will be
releasing a new solo album by May 23 (US date), refered to as "The
Charlie Watts / Jim Keltner Project". The CyberOctave/Higher Octave
Music label the album will be released on describes it as "...his
most personal and compelling statement to date. Joining forces with
fellow drummer Jim Keltner, Watts has created a genre-defying yet
nonetheless heartflet tribute to jazz drumming royalty". We had
a copy of this CD here at Charlie's Angel and believe us, this is true !
This new album is very original and ambitious. Read more about the album
on Charlies fan club site!! |

"Bridges to Babylon" session at the same studio. |

LONDON (AP) - Mick Jagger joined in song with his Rolling
Stones bandmates Friday at the funeral of his mother, Eva. Mourners,
including Jagger and fellow Stones Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Charlie
Watts, sang the gospel song ``Will the Circle Be Unbroken'' during the
funeral service at St. Andrew's Church in Ham, on the southwestern
