Pittsburgh
Tour

PITTSBURGH, March 11th. 1999.

After a five hours drive Skippy, Uncle Fish and I, arrived in Pittsburgh.

We were to pick Will Nash up at the Ramada Hotel, so we parked our car there as well (The Ramada is opposite the Civic Arena). It was nice meeting a lot of other fans there.

After walking to the Arena, Skippy got out tickets at the Box Office and we went in the arena. We did miss The Corrs again, what a shame.. J

We had separated seats. John and Will were in the E section and Skippy and I were located in the B section, which was on the lower ring, not far from the little stage.

Skippy and I did an "unguided tour of the arena". We started behind the main stage. "Jumpin’ Jack Flash" came out very well.

This was a night of surprises! The first one was "Bitch" a steady rocker. After we had seen "Bitch" we ran into Blue Lena and friends where we stayed with them for a while.

From there we had a nice view on the stage on Keith’s side.

"Bitch" was followed by "You Got Me Rocking" and then the next surprise was "Gimme Shelter", during which Lisa was able to test her voice once more. Then "Honky Tonk Women".

We expected "Moonlight Mile" or "Memory Hotel". A keyboard was put at the edge of the stage and out third surprise was "Fool To Cry". This one sounded very good. And Skippy turned around and said to me: "Only this song made it worth while driving up to Pittsburgh!"

During "Saint Of Me" we had to move along and I lost Skippy for a while. So I went to the B section where my regular seat was.

"Some Girls" sounded great tonight and so did "Paint It Black".

After the band introductions it looked like 18.000 people were yelling "Keith, Keith, Keith..." He loved it. And so did we! Keith did a great version of "You Got The Silver".

This one was coming straight from the heart.

Followed by "Before They Make Me Run".

"Out Of Control" sounded real good tonight. And what I noticed during the concert was that the crowd responded much better to the Stones, everybody was clapping and singing and dancing along. Sorry DC, but Pittsburgh did beat you at this point:J

On the little stage "Route 66" was not very strong IMHO. It was done too slowly. "When The Whip Comes Down" and "Midnight Rambler" on the contrary, were awesome" "Whip" rocked and the crowd loved it.

"Rambler" was my personal highlight of the show. It gave me goose bumps from head to toe.

The finale was the standard setlist with "Tumbling Dice", "It’s Only Rock’n’Roll", "Start Me Up", which seemed to be a highlight for the crowd once more, followed by "Brown Sugar". (Next tour they should open with this one and I’ll like it again, like I like "Jumpin’ Jack Flash" which turns out to be a very strong opener.

The encore, "Sympathy For The Devil", we were able to enjoy from very close, as we were at the side of the stage then. Just steps away from the ramp at Keith’s side.

I think this was a terrific show, giving us some nice surprises and Pittsburgh being a great audience.

Can it get any better? Yes, it can in Philly next Monday and Tuesday!

Thanks John for the ride in your beautiful car and Skippy for providing us the tickets.
