Stones gig to help crash victims

The Rolling Stones are to give a share of proceeds from a concert in Warsaw to the families of 26 Polish pilgrims who were killed in a coach crash in France.

The rock legends are to go ahead with Wednesday's gig, which will follow three days of national mourning for the victims of Sunday's crash.

A minute's silence will also be held during the show, organisers said.

Earlier, singer Rod Stewart cancelled a concert scheduled to take place in Gdansk during the mourning period.

The accident happened in the French Alps, near the city of Grenoble.

Elderly passengers

The coach, which had come from the Szczecin area of north-west Poland, was carrying 51 people, including two drivers.

Most of the passengers were elderly Roman Catholic pilgrims on their way back from the shrine of Notre-dame-de-la-Salette.

The vehicle broke through a safety barrier while going down a steep road before falling into a ravine and bursting into flames.

The Rolling Stones' concert promoter Viva Art did not say how much money was likely to be given to the victims' families.

Tens of thousands of fans are expected at Wednesday's sell-out show at the Sluzewiec Hippodrome as part of the band's three-month European tour.

Set list:
Start Me Up - You Got Me Rocking - Rough Justice - Ain't Too Proud To Beg - Love Is Strong - You Can't Always Get What You Want - Midnight Rambler - I'll Go Crazy -  Tumbling Dice - Intros - You Got The Silver - Wanna Hold You - Miss You - It's Only Rock'n'Roll - Get Off Of My Cloud - Honky Tonk Women - Paint It Black - Jumpin' Jack Flash - Brown Sugar - Satisfaction (encore)

Review Little Queenie, Poland:

Not only me, but also my friends who were on several shows have an impression
that the Stones had more fun in Poland (25.07.2003) than in Czech Republic
(22.07.2007, 27.07.2003) and than in some other shows in Europe,
which makes me very happy, because I see a fair chance that next time they will visit Poland.
And I'm gonna pray for it! Summing up the band did a great show, played and sang beautifully,
and the audience was really really cool! I've seen The Stones were very moved and amused,
even Charlie smiled a lot [!], so when the show was over I felt like crying.
I realized for the third time how much I love them and how much I need to see them for some time to be fully happy.
That was the first time me and my sister had this opportunity to have fun in the company of many other great Stones fans, for which we thank them a lot! Now I'm gonna to describe in details what was happening that night :)

At the very beginning, right before the show, some fan ran on the stage and about 5 security guys tried to get him down for about 5 minutes! All the people had a good laugh!

01. INTRO / START ME UP

It's just the most exciting moment right before the show, when you watch the intro, everybody's waiting and suddenly the whole stage blows up, the biggest bang one has ever heard mixes
with the first chords of Start Me Up! I guess every show starts similar, but there is something
special about it that you want to experience this again and again, all people jumping
and shouting "start me up!" - that really gives power! And the last words of the song
"you you, you make a grown man cum" sang by EVERYBODY, and the whole audience shouts
"start me up" and that is the end of the first song ;). A great applause for the band and
Mick Jagger says "thhhank you!", and then "dobrywieczor Warszawo!" ("good evening Warsaw"), "witam Polske!" ("welcome Poland"), which makes everybody frantic!

02. YOU GOT ME ROCKING

To my surprise they played this song, in fact they also played Love Is Strong, which isn't so often played on this tour, is it? At the end he says "thank you very much, thank YOU",
and then "dziekuje" ("thank you"), "cudownie byc tu znowu" ("wonderful to be back").
Then we sing him "happy birthday" and he seems to be very moved and makes a deep bow, which we receive with loud applause:

After that he thanks again and introduces Rough Justice.

03. ROUGH JUSTICE

It was fantastic! A really good performance of this song! I liked the guitar solos ;)
After the song he says a few things:
"Thank you, I want to welcome everybody here tonight, everyone that is from Warsaw, everyone from out of town" [applause], and then something like "everyone from other countries
and someone here from Ukraine, we very welcome everyone here - people from Belarus,
you're very welcome" and introduces Ain't Too Pround To Beg!!!

04. AIN'T TOO PROUD TO BEG

I would never expect that they will play Ain't Too Proud To Beg in Poland! At least it is one of my favourite songs! Those first sounds of piano and "I know you wanna leave me, but I'll refuse to let you go, if I have to beg, please for your sympathy, I don't mind, cause you mean that much to me,
I ain't too proud to beg sweet darling, please don't leave me now, don't you go..." Mick's voice is so sweet. "Don't you go!" and that's the end - that was wonderful! After a while Mick says:
M: "Okay... How're you doing, are you doing good?"
A: "Yeah!"
M: "Are you doing gooood?
A: "Yeeaah"
M: "Alright"... "This one's called Love Is Strong."

05. LOVE IS STRONG

Mick on the harp sounds fantastic! Lots of people knew the words so we all sang the song from the beginning to the very end ;). Mick says "cleaning crew is in action" :D - it rained a bit for a while
and the floor got wet so someone had to do something, because in Brno (Czech Republic) it also rained and Mick during his dancing slipped!!! After a while Mick asks us: "zaspiewacie ze mna?" ("will you sing with me?), but he says it in such a funny way that it makes a lot of people laugh but we shout "Yeah!", and Mick replies "Yes!", "Okay, let's do our best, are you ready for that?", -
"Yeeaah!". Everybody knows that it's going to be YCAGWYW!

06. YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT

That was beautiful! I was on 3 shows and the audience in Poland was the best!
When Mick allows us to sing "you can't always get what you want" everyone starts to clap
their hands and shout, but Mick puts the refrain into shape: "that's right, come on, come on,
now you can't!..." - "...always get what you want!". That was the laudest I've ever heard! After the song Mick says "you sound so good!" and "co za cudowna noc" ("what a wonderful night") and everyone laughed to hear that (because of Mick's accent and you know, we were very pleased to hear Mick speaking so much in Polish!).

07. MIDNIGHT RAMBLER

We hear Charlie's drums, then Mick trying his harmonica and everyone knows what will follow.
That was a good rock and roll! I love that song, I think there's no need to describe how it feels to experience it live! People screaming and shouting in the middle, a little interaction between Mick
and the people ("everybody say <ouugh!>"), Mick's face expressing something like
"can't you do this better??", so we try better and at last we see Mick's face expressing
satisfaction :), then it rocks rocks up! At the end he says "wielkie dzieki" ("many thanks") and introduces a new song on this tour I'll Go Crazy by James Brown, which receives great applause,
as if we were dying to hear it!

08. I'LL GO CRAZY

I never though I will like this song that much! I even recorded a short fragment where Mick's
dancing with Lisa. Lisa's voice was d**n great, I felt my flesh creeped! Mick: "than you very much, thank you very kindly", "can you hear me one time?, can you hear me two time?,
can you hear me three time?, can you hear me four time? I love ya!" and he laughs in a way I've never heard him live! Very sweet... And we hear Tumbling Dice at once!

[image] [image]

09. TUMBLING DICE

That's one of the songs I love to hear live! I sang it all along with Mick :). It always makes me crazy when I hear the whole audience singing "baby, I can't stay". That is the most beautiful moment! I remember Mick singing with his falset "uu-uuu-uuuuu, you got to roll me" - I love when he does it! The end of the song and Mick shouts "Thaaank you!, thank you very much! Yes indeed!"

10. BAND INTRODUCTION

It starts with the funniest thing I heard during the show!!! - Mick saying: "Chcialbym przedstawic zespol" ("I'd like to introduce the band") - pretty good, Mick! Then: "najpierw piekna Lisa Fisher[applause], cudowna sukienka [laugh & applause], jakie tanie buty! [laugh laugh laugh!!!]" (something about beautiful dress and cheap shoes :D). I know he says it during all the shows, but I was dying to hear it in Polish! Then he says "respect man!" ;). Ronnie, like always I guess, receives great applause, people are shouting "Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie...". There is a recording of that show but the audince is partly inaudible ;P. Then: "na perkusji (on the drums), the rocker of Warszawa [?] (Warsaw) - Charlie Watts!" and those Mick's raps :D, "on the guitar, Keith Richards!". He receives the longest applause! We all shout "Keith, Keith, Keith..." - he seems to be very moved, says "hey guys" and laughs, then "good evening, it's really great to be back, I mean the second time around in Poland" and we still greet him loudly so he answers "you guys are so cool, ya know", "uhm, anyway, uhm, oh yes, uhm, You've Got The Silver" :D.

11. YOU GOT THE SILVER

People liked this song. I liked his "you got the silverrr" ;), he changed the words at the end a bit, but that sounded great! He sings it like if he is telling us some story - he's great at it! "oh, oh yes, oh, I Wanna Hold You, ya know?"

[image] [image]

12. I WANNA HOLD YOU

Thank to the show in Brno and the show in Warsaw I began to love this song, really! I loved when the audience sang "I wanna hold you, I gotta ho-oold you-uuu". Alright, he finishes and thanks us. We already see the b-stage ready, the Stones are getting on, "one, two, one, two, three, four!" - Miss You!

13. MISS YOU

I never knew how wonderful this song is until I heard and sang it that night! I recorded a short video when they were moving to the back. I threw white baloon on the left my sister threw on the moving stage, when The Stones were back there, Mick kicked it off the stage! WE WENT CRAZY!!! The end: "How are you doing down there, are you OK?", "is everybody goood?" - "Yeaahh" and It's Only Rock'N Roll!

14. IT'S ONLY ROK'N ROLL (BUT I LIKE IT)

I can still see the band performing it on the centre stage... People in the back could see them much better and I'm very happy about this, because many didn't even know The Rolling Stones would be moving!. Mick ends with his "thank you, thank you very much, thhank Yoouu!", "wygladacie wspaniale" ("you look fantastic"), "oh, can you remember this one?", I wonder which one until I hear the chords of... Get Off Of My Cloud! I never expected to hear that live! They played it instead of Sympathy For The Devil, you know, because of this tragedy. In Brno they played then Satisfaction.

15. GET OFF OF MY CLOUD

Guitars are fantastic! Get Off Of My Cloud sounds great to me! How about you? Mick sang what he wanted to sing! The only words we didn't have problems with were: "Hey! - Hey! You! - You! Get off of my cloud!" :) It lasted quite short.

16. HONKY TONK WOMEN

You know, when it comes to Honky Tonk Women, everybody know it's going to be Honky Tonk Women, and everybody knows it's going to be a great fun! The whole audience singing "it's a honky tonk, honky tonk, women!" must sound great, don't you think? They return to the main stage! My gold baloon is ready, Mick looks at me and at my baloon and knows I'm going to throw it at him in a while. Our group of fans were the most enthusiastic I think, because Mick was looking at us quite often! Now the boys are outright before me, I throw the balloon on the stage, Mick looks and waits until it fells down. And maybe it's just my imagination, but I think he read the note on it ("HAPPY BITHDAY MICK!"). When they are back on the main stage Mick says "thank you, thank you very much, thank you everybody down in the back!, mmm" ;) There is a long break...

17. PAINT IT BLACK

In Poland everyone loves Paint It Black, I was surprised to hear that! Every fan sang and clapped his/her hands! A fantastic song indeed!
"Alrighhht! Are you having a good time now?", "Are you having a good time now?", Alright! That's goood!" - Keith starts with Jumpin' Jack Flash!

18. JUMPIN' JACK FLASH

This song certainly woke up everyone outside the hippodome! It is so powerful that we couldn't just listen - we started to sing and jump, it's a jumpin' song after all :D After JJ Flash:
M: "Yeah baby! You feel like a little bit more?"
A: "Yeeaahhh!!!"
M: "You feel like just a little bit more?"
A: "Yeeaahhh!!!"
M: "Alright!"
I know they start the one song with these words :)

19. BROWN SUGAR

The very beginning: I see a big blow - fire wth smoke and hear a big bang! There was no one who didn't sing "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Wooow!". That is my favourite moment of this song :D You know, something that everyone can engage in! At the end Mick greets Warsaw: "Pozdrawiam Warszaweeee!!!", "Bardzo dziekuje, dobranoc!" ("Thank you very much, goodnight!"). We all new that there's one song missing, one without which the show can't go on on The Bigger Bang Tour... :D. The audience demands encore: "jeszcze jeden, jeszcze jeden...", then "Rolling Stones, Rolling Stones, Rolling Stones..." until... that characteristic guitar riff!

20. (I CAN'T GET NO) SATISFACTION

The whole hippodrome is now jumping and singing, I shudder, feel the floor shakes! The Rolling Stones are magicians! Keith's solo was fantastic! We all sang at the top of our voices. There's no way to describe this! When it was over we all sang "happy birthday" to Mick, also "sto lat" (in Polish). Then we started to shout "Rolling Stones, Rolling Stones, Rolling Stones..." again. The band received well-deserved laud applause. And the amazing fireworks! :)

The place where The Stones are playing is the best place one can ever be in, especially when it is your home country, for me it was. Thank everyone for reading.
